ABSTRACT

There were four existing houses where Robert Adam prepared designs for four rooms. Three of these, Cullen House, 25 Grosvenor Square in London, and a house for the Earl of Kerry inscribed Portman Square in London, each have attractive ceilings. However, few of the drawings are finished, and there is no interesting wall decoration. The fourth such house is Burghley House where one room, the staircase, is discussed below.
