A variety of methods are available to improve the knowledge, attitudes, and skills of supervisors. Selection of the appropriate technique or techniques depends on objectives, subject content, costs, availability of materials and instructors, and time considerations. Some of the most common methods include on-the-job development (as discussed in Chapters 10 and 11); internal classroom training (Chapters 7 and 8); and outside institutes, conferences, and seminars (Chapter 9) . This chapter briefly describes several other popular methods and provides references for obtaining more information (see Figure 6-1).
