ABSTRACT

Though lighting has a massive role to play in cinematographyin terms of visual storytelling, the lighting artist also needs a knowledge of concepts such as composition, camera positioning, staging, mood and depth, all of which are fundamental to the production of imagery in any medium, from film to photography, fine art to illustration. This chapter aims to discuss these concepts whilst keeping lighting in mind as central to all of these principles.
