Focus on the supply chain has sharpened since the beginning of the decade. Market responsiveness and meeting the demands of the ultimate consumer are given as reasons. The supply base has contracted and there has been a greater shift to overseas sourcing. This has led to changes in culture and philosophy whereby retailers and suppliers work with rather than against each other. The key influencing factor is Information Technology and the speed of information exchange.
