ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the audio recording and playback equipment that is typically available at telecine facilities and explains how it can be used to obtain optimum results. The introduction of audiotape transports with accurate and easy-to-use resolving capability and built-in time code readers has made it possible to transfer the original audio recordings, in sync, directly to videotape during telecine transfer. A number of excellent digital video processing devices are available for telecine facilities. Because a substantial amount of telecine work involves the transfer of feature films and television series programs with existing magnetic film sound elements, it is important to be familiar with their capabilities and applications. Resolving a properly produced magnetic film sound track is considerably simpler than resolving a magnetic tape. Because magnetic film devices are designed to operate in interlock, the magnetic film transport follows the projector or telecine film transport frame for frame in both speed and direction.
