During its 50-year history, the intercultural field has steadily grown in both sophistication and practicality. The good intentions of the practitioners, so evident in the early years, have survived. But now an emphasis also is placed on good results. Much creativity and experimentation has gone into the design and development of cross-cultural training programs and learning activities. Consequently, the number and types of services have proliferated greatly. During recent years, the application of research findings has begun to provide a more solid foundation for these services.
