Baselining the enterprise

Strategic positioning and preparation, however, must be done without impacting the continuity and the profitability of the ongoing business. It is therefore essential for strategists to understand what exists within their own organization, what must be preserved, and what needs to be changed. Such an exercise will also identify the potential problems that lie ahead. This exercise of risk analysis is a vital part of the planning process as, once a risk is identified, contingency plans put in place to both minimize the chance of failure and to limit the impact on the programme if such risk events occur.
