ABSTRACT

In the new millennium, most national and international hotel groups are still orientated primarily to the needs of business travellers and the expenditure they generate. In the last quarter of a century, however, in the sunshine resorts of the USA, Europe and the Pacific area, thousands of resort hotels have been built specifically to cater for the needs of the leisure market. Similar developments in timeshare resorts also owe their origins to leisure travel. In all such cases developments have exploited the market potential made possible by increasing disposable income in developed countries and modern transport systems.
