ABSTRACT

Since the early 1980s information technology has had a major effect on the way buildings are used, controlled and constructed. Arup COlnmunications has been at the forefront in advising clients and designers on the use and installation of information technology. More recently, with European Union innovation funds, the company has pioneered the use of information technology to improve comlnunications between designers and constructors. Bill Southwood, Founder and Director of Arup COlnmunications, plots the impact that information technology can have on the use, management and construction of buildings.
