ABSTRACT

Recent advances in computing and communications technologies combined with an increased awareness of the environmental impact of travel have resulted in a growing interest in the concept of teleworking. An employee may come to an agreement with their employer whereby part or all of their contracted hours are spent working from their home rather than the traditional office of their organization. With this new freedom of location comes the new challenge of how best to support this remote work with new technologies. This chapter looks at the requirements of those people who choose to work away from their organization's main site of work and suggests how technology might better support these new work practices.
