ABSTRACT

A sense of where 'lue have come from is an essential ingredient in speculating on zuhere 'lue are/ and the options that lie ahead for how zoe may move forward. This chapter identifies the major changes 'lvhich have occurred in the last fifty years to the way businesses are organized/ and yet in practice hOlD little the physical settings have changed. The article provides an analysis of concepts ofoffice organizations since the early 1950s through to the present day/ and the spatial and workplace layouts proposed to meet these alternative organizational forms.
