ABSTRACT
It is unrealistic, even after having taken all known precautions, to rule out the possibility of an accident. It can be diminished but not eliminated. A mistake by another vessel may cause it to happen and when it does occur it exercises the abilities of a person more than any routine task. Dealing with damage is an integral part of the duty of a deck officer.
