Obsolescence and refurbishment

Buildings are major assets and often form a significant part of facility management operations. Although buildings are long lasting they require continual maintenance and restoration over their lives. Eventually, most buildings become inappropriate for their original purpose due to obsolescence, or can become redundant due to change in demand for their service. It is at these times that major change is likely, such as demolition to make way for new construction, or some form of refurbishment.
