ABSTRACT

An interesting feature of the form-active shape for any load pattern is that if a rigid element is constructed whose longitudinal axis is the mirror image of the form-active shape taken up by the cable, then it too will be subjected exclusively to axial internal forces when the same load is applied, despite the fact that, being rigid, it could also carry a bendingtype internal force. In the mirror-image form all the axial internal forces are compressive (Fig. 4.4).
