Environmental impact assessment

Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) has been developed and is used as a means to identify potential damaging effects of proposed developments and is widely accepted as an effective tool of environmental management. EIA was first introduced in the United States in 1969 under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) for land-use planning. Environmental quality was identified as a national priority and the EIA procedure established by NEPA became a worldwide model for comparison.
