Embodied energy and recycling

Because energy is crucial to every aspect of human activity both now and in the future, issues relating to supply, production and consumption are constantly occupying the headlines of newspapers and debates worldwide. By far the greatest source of energy at present is fossil-based fuel oil, coal and gas. The strong interdependence between energy and human well-being drives a concern that the strictly limited quantities of non-renewable resources will inevitably be exhausted and thus, there is a compulsion to consider substitutions before the existing stocks run out and permanent global climate changes precipitate.
