ABSTRACT
As well as leading and directing their staff, managers also have to motivate staff to work well in order to achieve the organization’s objectives. In this chapter we will look at some of the problems that managers face in trying to motivate their staff, together with various motivation theories (from those concentrating on job content, to process and contingency theories), and some of the means that managers can use to motivate their workforce and subordinates.
