ABSTRACT

South American countries have realized that tourism is an excellent way to diversify their economies. Every day more and more capital is being invested in infrastructure and at the same time there are a number of initiatives to attract foreign capital, especially geared to financing hotels and other kinds of accommodation for tourists. In addition to the traditional options of ‘sun and sand’ holidays, as well as ecotourism and cultural tourism, it is now possible to witness the rise of cruise tourism, with cruises towards the Antarctic becoming increasingly popular.
