Government tourism administration
This chapter looks at the issues related to public sector administration and tourism. It discusses the purposes of public administration and examines the concepts of absorptive capacity and cultural compatibility. It goes on to explore issues about strengthening the capacity of the public sector and problems of malpractice on the part of government officials. The role and scope of government tourism administrations (GTAs), and the various forms of organization found, are discussed as are questions of decentralization and private sector organizations. The importance and influence of government/business relationships are also discussed. The chapter then goes on to consider the legal framework for tourism and concludes by describing various international organizations.
