Managing product development
This chapter lists the product development strategies, and describes planning needs at different levels. It goes on to examine the concept of macroregional planning, the use of geographical information systems (GIS), a national development and land use planning agency, and microregional planning. It then describes the relationship of these approaches with regional tourism planning, and lists a number of minimum planning requirements. Coastal management plans are briefly described, as are urban tourism needs. The chapter then explains the content of the tourism development action programme, and the investment promotion and approval needs. The chapter concludes with the product development objectives, results and activities, representing the product development part of the overall management and planning process.
