ABSTRACT

Sometimes you may wonder exactly why a management structure is necessary in corporations. It can be argued that some managers get in the way more than they contribute to the output of their particular areas of responsibility. Some managers irritate employees with incessant meddling. Others attempt to represent their employees' efforts to others but inevitably mess it up. Some compete with their workers on a technical level to show everyone that they could still do real work if they had to. In fact this competition tends to erode the trust that is so necessary between managers and their employees. Managers mostly perform administrative functions; rarely are they called upon to make decisions that affect the future of their departments.
