ABSTRACT
These differential growth rates have resulted in a loss of share of arrivals for the Americas, falling from nearly 26% of the total in 1970 to 19% in 1998. The region, however, has seen a small increase in its share of international tourism receipts, rising from 26.8% in 1970 to 27.3% in 1998, due primarily to the changing composition of visitors to the region.
