ABSTRACT

This is an exercise to produce, shoot, write, and edit a news story. Together with the voice-overs done earlier, they will be used to develop a finished project. When shooting material for news, it is important to understand that nothing should be staged. However, many shoots are staged to some degree, such as an interview, press conference, or photo opportunity. Though an interview is staged, the responses are not prepared in advance, rehearsed, or staged. The presence of the camera itself will affect a story and will inevitably serve to alter events. The camera team has an impact on what happens, but it is their responsibility to try to minimize that impact as much as possible. Interviews are usually an essential part of any news story. These can be with anyone involved in the story or with an expert on a related topic.
