ABSTRACT

There are two parts to the overall design, each of which will be covered in this and the following tutorial: The first is a centerpiece graphic that blurs the lines between flat, print-style art and dimensional 3D through lighting tricks; the second consists of additional graphical dressing based on sequences of words and moving elements. This tutorial is intended to be a gentle introduction to the concepts of using 3D space and lights. Working in 3D doesn’t mean you have to

suddenly start flying around in space; you can use these features to subtly enhance what otherwise would be a flat, 2D design. We will also touch on using null objects, parenting, and expressions. These are all important features added in version 5 that we know many are not yet comfortable with.
