ABSTRACT

The type of server application you will be using depends on the underlying operating system running on your computer. The two Microsoft web servers we discuss here were built in essence to follow the market for their relevant version of Windows. Starting with Windows NT version 4, Microsoft began to supply Internet Information Services. This is a complex application that can handle massive amounts oflnternet traffic and be configured to handle secure e-commerce and other intensive processing tasks. Windows NT was aimed at the business market, so it seemed eminently sensible to have a powerful web server available for it, and it is now a core part of Windows 2000 and XP professional systems.
