ABSTRACT

Data are an essential input to the effective planning and design of transport systems, either directly by describing the current state of the system, or indirectly by allowing the calibration of models which yield insights into the processes at work in the system or help to predict how the system is likely to perform in the future with and without policy intervention. Chapters 13, 14 and 15 will discuss the techniques involved in specific types of survey.
