ABSTRACT

Legal ■ It is often assumed that there are no legal constraints on distribution. For deregulated industries (e.g. gas,

electricity, telephones) law, in part, governs the nature and standard of distribution. Sometimes an organization may wish to restrict the type of outlet where its products are sold. A brand owner may consider that he or she is defending the brand values by keeping the product out of unsuitable outlets. Supermarkets, who are discriminated against in this way, can argue this is a restraint of free trade.
