ABSTRACT

Rakesh was an ambitious individual, but he was not concerned about the bickering. When asked about it, he would say: ‘Oh, a certain amount of conflict and “politicking” is inevitable in a large office like ours. It’s nothing to worry about. They get the job done – most of them.’ Rakesh tended to shut himself in his office and concentrate on the special projects that he was assigned from time to time by higher management. No formal team meetings were ever held, as Rakesh ‘couldn’t see the point’. He did admit to himself that he was often disappointed with the response he got from his staff – they didn’t all give him the support he would have liked. But he gradually learned to trust three of his team, who effectively became his ‘aides’.
