ABSTRACT

SNOW RAINBOW Shot with a Canon 10D, 20-35 mm f2.8 lens at 20 mm, this rare snow rainbow, caused by the refraction of ice crystals against the sun, was made, coincidentally, at Canon Mountain in Franconia, New Hampshire. David’s exposure, 1/1000 at f8, about one stop less than a textbook daylight exposure, accounts for the saturated colors. The camera’s preset Daylight color temperature accents the extra ultraviolet light present in a snow scene (FIG 10.1).
