ABSTRACT

Fire is one of the most destructive, disruptive and costly causes of damage to any building yet fires don’t just happen they are caused. While many fires start because of a momentary act of carelessness, ignorance or failure to take account of fairly obvious hazards, an increasing number are started deliberately. Fire has been a great friend of man through the ages enabling him to cook, improve his range of tools and lengthen his day by giving him a source of light. Fire has also been a constant enemy and its destructive powers have been both worshipped and feared.
