Algebra and graphs

ByAllan Bonnick

Algebra deals with equations and formulae of the type found in dealing with the science and technology encountered in automotive technicians' studies. Much information about vehicle technology is given in formulae and equations. A formula is normally presented in the form of an equation. Solving equations, in other words ‘finding the value of the unknown quantity’, can be achieved by the application of some fairly simple rules. Graphs are used to display numerical data in such a way that connections and relationships between variables can be seen. Graphs are normally plotted on squared paper. Each square is chosen to represent a set amount of each of the variables. The scales used must be clearly shown on the graph.
