ABSTRACT

This final chapter brings together theoretical and practical considerations for all those concerned with specifying buildings. As demonstrated, factors both internal and external to the specifier’s social system may exert different pressures at different stages during the project. Thus, although specifiers are mainly content to choose from their preferred palette, building product innovations may be forced on them by pressure from, for example, planning officers or contractors. Therefore, building product innovations may be introduced by sources other than the manufacturer.
