ABSTRACT

Studies of the bases of leader effectiveness reveal one theme recurring again and again. The leader who shows the most competence is the one who recognizes the essential purpose of leading and who keeps this purpose clearly in mind. For the executive, the purpose of his relationships with close subordinates is to promote effective performance among the members of this key group so that required activities will be successfully executed. This is accomplished through the creation of conditions and relationships that will be conducive to effective subordinate performance.
