ABSTRACT

When people are asked to explain what they are doing to improve the environ-

ment, the questioner almost always want to know what they are doing in their

personal lives – at home, with their cars, or on holiday. They are rarely asked

about what they do at work. This is because questions about corporate actions

and behaviour are presented to offi cials and representatives, and not ordinary

employees. Consequently, it is diffi cult to gauge how people feel about their

employer ’ s treatment of environmental or social issues, and some may not con-

sider that it is really any of their business.
