ABSTRACT

Price, proximity, schedulethe producer sees all locations with these elements in mind. He negotiates for the location once members of the key creative team have made their choice. If the director requests a particular location that is priced out of reach of the budget, the producer should suggest an alternate or backup location. The commissions have already done the work of accumulating thousands of photographs of every sort of location available for filmmakers. To evaluate a location properly, consider lighting, power, sound, and other variables, in addition to the script breakdowns. Locations are usually scouted long before the sound team is hired and often selected without any regard for noise or acoustic conditions. Visually dramatic locations have been known to inspire directors. Practical locations look real but come with problems relating to space and control.
