ABSTRACT

Turning  is  carried  out  on  a  lathe  of  some  description,  the  type  depending on the complexity of the workpiece and the quantity required.  All lathes are derived from the centre lathe, so called since the majority  of work in the past was done between centres, to ensure concentricity of  diameters. This is no longer the case, as accurate methods of workholding are now available.
