ABSTRACT

The twenty-first century has witnessed considerable change in the design of public libraries. The growth of IT has led to an unprecedented level of evolution in this type of library, with a fresh relationship between books, readers and computers. The dynamic triggered by new information technologies has been paralleled by considerable social change in the nature of library users. Knowledge needs have changed and so has the means of imparting it. The examples discussed later in the chapter suggest the emergence of exciting new forms of delivering library services at both city and branch library level.
