ABSTRACT

Complex digital characters and the architecture built to drive them would be meaningless without the ability to make them move. Animation breathes life into these systems, and whether it is driven by a talented animator, a motioncaptured performer, or a procedural system, the skill required is formidable and the technology underlying these techniques is advancing rapidly. In this section, we explore the curves created by animators, capture of human performance, and code used to express complex motion for layering these techniques into the character performance required.
