ABSTRACT

In the nal Spacesuit image (Fig.07), I wanted to really make things “pop out” from one another. As you can see, I decided that the door I had at the beginning was much cooler than the one I was trying to make, so I decided to keep it. Throwing more detail into the door and some highlights made it “pop” out of the darkness from within the door nicely. Overall, I felt like I needed the painting to have more contrast, so I started to just push things back with darker values and made the spacesuit “pop” a little more. I then felt good with the position and everything else, and I wanted to start putting in all those fun little details. I wanted to sharpen up some of the shapes on the suit and add some sketchy lines for the texture on the sleeves. Then, at the end, I found a nice picture of an American ag and threw that down on there and erased away a little here and there to make it look like it was a used suit and a bit damaged. That’s when I called it done!

Conclusion Towards the end of this painting I was really pumped, I felt like I totally learned some new things from working on this project. I felt like I accomplished what I wanted to and some happy accidents actually made it cooler than I thought it would be, which is always a good thing. There are a few things I would love to change about this image;
