ABSTRACT
Create your own Mach band contours without a photograph by using Adobe Photoshop, Aldus Freehand, or Adobe Illustrator. Use one of the programs to draw shapes that vary in brightness and color, and fit them so that they share a common contour. In retouching programs such as Photoshop you will have to fill in selected areas with your paint bucket or paint brush. If you use a draw program such as Illustrator or Freehand you can actually draw the shapes and fill them with color afterward. Regardless of which route you follow, you will be able to explore the vivid effects of contouring.
