ABSTRACT

Color Filters Color fi lters are commonly identifi ed by the perceived color of the transmitted light when illuminated by white incident light (see Figure 8-2). For example, a red fi lter transmits red light and absorbs green and blue light. Color fi lters differ with respect to (a) which part of the visible spectrum is transmitted freely (identifi ed by color hue or peak transmittance wavelength); (b) the width of the region transmitted and the sharpness of the cutoff (identifi ed by a general description such as narrow, sharp-cutting bandpass or specifi c bandpass data); and (c) the degree of absorption of the unwanted colors (identifi ed by general terms such as light yellow and dark yellow, or specifi c transmittance and density data).
