ABSTRACT

Most of us have had the experience of being at a social function and noticing someone who looks attractive. After some maneuvering, you get to meet them or at least get closer. Suddenly that person starts talking and all the attractiveness disappears. The way you talk can have an immense effect on your social life and your career in and out of mass media. Your voice is the most important physical quality for effective broadcast performance. As a radio announcer, your voice is the only way the audience will be able to understand the message. As a television performer, you will be seen as well as heard, but to understand the importance of the vocal portion of television, just turn down the volume the next time you watch TV. While you may be able to follow what is on the screen, you will quickly lose the actual content. Even if you do not fi nd a job in an announcing situation, your voice will continue to be one of your most important assets. The sound of your voice and your ability to communicate ideas are essential in any career.
