ABSTRACT

Fortunately, for composers and sound designers today, providing audio content for the myriad of gaming consoles and platforms isn’t as difficult as in the recent past. With the relatively simultaneous launch of three game consoles-the Sony PlayStation 2, Nintendo GameCube, and Microsoft Xbox-an era of audio development opened to allow audio creators to utilize familiar tools instead of dealing with often laborious development systems. And with the introduction of the next-generation (next-gen) systems-Sony PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii, and Microsoft Xbox 360-it’s even easier to create sound, although implementation considerations have become exponentially more complicated. Previously, a game composer would have to acquire and license a development system and spend time learning it before they could even begin composing. Thankfully, those days have gone the way of the dinosaur and content creators have far less restrictions and far more freedom.
