ABSTRACT

Many trailblazing directors have tried to offset process their footage with sometimes great or catastrophic results. Luckily, digital processing allows for experimentation at only the cost of time. On the other end, many digital alchemists have been trying to do the impossible, magically turn DV into film. Visual effects software may not be able to turn video into film but there are a wide range of options and techniques available for using software to improve the quality of footage, giving it a custom and surprisingly film-like look. Compact discs have clarified the sound quality of music to such an extent that not much later than its acceptance as the mainstream format for music there was a movement of folks longing for the cracks and buzzes of vinyl. Rotoscoping refers to shots that go through a frame-by-frame technique that often involves hand drawing or tracing.
