ABSTRACT
An antenna is arguably the single most critical part of any radio communications system and those to be found in the GMDSS radionet are no exception. Unfortunately, it is often the part of a radio installation which is less than efficient. Not because of the characteristics of antenna design but because of the major problems of antenna siting and installation, particularly on modern ships operating in the GMDSS system.
