ABSTRACT

Additional payments are made for marker points (usually £10 each) and also for chambers, valves, manholes and other permanent structures. If these manholes etc are in arable fields they are a serious nuisance and it is not unusual especially in the case of the larger chambers for compensation from £100 to £500 each to be paid for their presence. If the chambers are placed in hedgerows the interference is less, as is the compensation eg £50 to £70 each. Sometimes an authority can be persuaded to bury a manhole below the depth of cultivation and this will result in lesser compensation payable.
