ABSTRACT

This purpose of this chapter is to show that the information gained in the past chapters can be used in systematic ways to enable consistent decisions and the formulation of strategies. Examples of some strategic collections management initiatives that have been proposed or implemented in the last decade are reviewed. These include the elements of prediction, impact, use, value, costs and benefits that indicate a relationship with risk analysis, even though the vocabulary employed does not always suggest this. The relationship between simplified ranking systems and more quantitative assessments is explored. Quantitative assessments of past decisions provide benchmarks for future decision-making.
