Fuse protection

At a similar voltage within a factory where the distance from the supply transformer may be less and the transformer itself larger, the fault level could rise to 18 000 kVA (18 MVA) which represents a current of 25 000 A. The nearer the fault to the supply generators, the larger the fault level. A fault on the 400 kV system can give fault levels in excess of 30 million kVA (30000 MVA), which is effectively a very large part of the total generating capacity of the UK.
