The future for media development seems to hold exciting opportunities. One of the major media
services groups, Zenith Media, publish a ‘Media Timeline’ which looks at media developments
from the year 1000 when writing paper was made out of tree bark in Mexico and forecasts
anticipated events into the middle of the current century. Amongst the forecasts are that by
2010 most TV ads are interactive, by 2111 bathroom mirrors display e-mail ‘ticker’ messages
(scary!) and reassuringly perhaps, Coronation Street will be the highest rated TV programme in
