ABSTRACT

Students should also provide a full explanation of each of the quality control checks that they identify and include relevant information on tolerances and standards. Students must produce a detailed costing for the manufacture of the product, taking into account materials and component costs, manufacturing costs (for example, the cost of spray coating an enclosure), and labour costs. These cost estimates can be based on representative costs but students must consider all aspects of production, including assembly, alignment, calibration or adjustment, as appropriate to the product concerned. Students’ plans for production should include a record and explanation of the appropriate regulations, standards and documentation that need to be considered in order to achieve a successful outcome. Finally, it is important that students realise that a plan for production is a forward-looking document and not a retrospective diary of events.
